Minecraft Villager Jobs And Workstations
Villagers take jobs by claiming nearby workstations. Understanding jobs helps you build trading halls, earn emeralds, buy enchanted books, and turn villages into reliable survival infrastructure.
Useful Early Jobs
- Librarian uses a lectern and can sell enchanted books.
- Fletcher uses a fletching table and can trade sticks for emeralds.
- Farmer uses a composter and buys crops.
- Armorer uses a blast furnace and can sell armor.
- Toolsmith uses a smithing table and can sell tools.
How Jobs Work
An unemployed villager can claim an available workstation and become a profession tied to that block. If you trade with a villager, the profession and trade path become locked. If you have not traded yet, removing the workstation can reset the profession.
Best Jobs For New Worlds
Fletchers are excellent for early emeralds because sticks are easy to gather. Farmers are stable if you have wheat, carrots, potatoes, or other crops. Librarians are high value because books like Mending, Unbreaking, Efficiency, and Fortune can change your entire survival progression.
Trading Hall Tip
Place one workstation per villager and label important trades. If villagers stop restocking, they may not be able to reach their claimed workstation or another villager may have claimed the wrong block.
FAQ
Why will my villager not take a job?
It may already have a profession, it may not be able to path to the workstation, or another villager may have claimed the block.
Can nitwits take jobs?
No. Nitwits do not take professions, so they are not useful for trading halls.
